Dads, master your daughters 'do at Her Town's Daddy Daughter Day

Her Town’s ‘Daddy Daughter Day is teaching dads how to master their daughter’s hairstyles this September.

Mums are usually the master of styling their daughter’s hair, but dads, there’s no reason you can’t be too- Her Town’s ‘Daddy Daughter Day’ will have you whipping up a spectacular hairdo in no time.

Her Town director Crystal Terrreu says the event is a first for the salon and will help dads strengthen the bond between dads and their daughters.

“We’re a women-driven salon, but we want to do something for dads and daughters because we see a lot of men struggling with caring for their daughters hair, or it always falls on the mum when mums are super busy,” Crystal says.

“I thought, ‘how many dads are out there who don’t know this stuff?’ We are trying to teach dads to strengthen the bond with their daughter through their hair, and it is nice for them to be able to strengthen a bond with them from a younger age, too.”

With their daughter in the styling chair, Dads will learn to master plaits, space buns and fishtail braids and will learn the ins and outs of hair health so they can follow up their daughter’s hair care at home.

“It is a nice day out, it’s in Glenelg so easy parking and you can have a family day after. They can enjoy a creative day and do something a little bit different,” Crystal says.

“I think a reason to engage with them and get on their level and understand, I think they will see another side of their daughter and enjoy their time with their daughter through that bond in a more organic way,” Crystal says.

“I think dads get a little bit lost as to how to strengthen the bond with their daughter, whereas if they have a son it is automatically football or take them to a basketball game, I’ve seen my husband get a bit lost with my daughter and how to strengthen the bond with her.”

“It is also important for their hair health, it can stop them from getting dandruff, knots or hair breakage.”

Kids can get in on the hair-raising action themselves, with the opportunity to learn and practice their hairstyling skills on a mannequin head.

Dads knowing how to do their daughter’s hair goes further than the bonding experience as it can help with getting their daughters ready, which will help take the pressure off mums.

Crystal says the event will also help daughters avoid unfortunate hair situations when its dad’s turn- so yes mums, that means no more cowlicks or knotty hair.

The bonding session has already proved enjoyable, as Crystal says they had a dad-daughter duo come in to the salon for a trial day to decide which hairstyles to do.

“It was so much fun seeing how invested our particular dad was in learning and doing his daughters hair and having that experience. It was really sweet to see him connect with his daughter and have a great day with his daughter, that was really nice,” she says.

On the day, Her Town’s licensed downstairs bar will serve dad favourites including whiskeys, gins, beers and nibbles. For the daughters, there will be mocktails, hot chocolates, soft drinks and nibbles and they also get a complimentary gift bag.
